Substance Abuse Services

Southern Peaks offers specialized, multilevel substance abuse programming as a primary or supplemental service for adolescents with chemical abuse and dependency issues.

Service levels include:

  • Prevention/Education
  • Intervention
  • Treatment

Youth in need of substance abuse services are assigned to a specific level of service based upon individualized clinical assessment. Some youth are referred to Southern Peaks with a requisite service level based on prior assessment, while others may be assessed and assigned during their first month of admission to Southern Peaks.

Our substance abuse programming blends research-based models to optimize the delivery of services while maximizing the potential for success. Treatment strategies are based on the transtheoretical model of behavior change and a cognitive-behavioral oriented approach. Curricula includes Pathways to Self-Discovery and Change, MRT®, Adolescent Relapse Prevention, Teen Intervene, and Brain Power. Key interventions include individual and group counseling tailored to the needs of each child based on his or her clinical assessment.

The Substance Abuse Program at Southern Peaks is licensed by the Colorado Department of Human Services Office of Behavioral Health. Substance abuse services are provided by Certified Addictions Counselors (level II or III) and are available to all youth at Southern Peaks.
